One of the many health benefits of getting adequate sleep or rest is that it helps you lose weight in ways you never imagined. There are other health benefits attached to getting enough sleep. So, this isn’t just great advice for shedding unwanted pounds around the midsection. As you already know, not getting enough sleep/rest leaves you feeling exhausted and hinders your physical performance for the day. It may interest you to know that nervous function, hormone production, and metabolism have a relationship with sleep. Enough sleep promotes hormone production, metabolism and nervous activities while lack of sleep or little sleep has the opposite effect on your body. If your nervous system can’t function at full capacity, you’re far more likely to work slower, stress more, exercise less, get irritated easily, loose focus easily, think slowly and feel uncomfortable. Furthermore, not getting enough sleep/rest can impair the production of key hormones needed by your body for the metabolism of fat cells. Research has shown that those who sleep less gain more weight.
